OT pickup muffler question

A little off the wall, but here"s a question for you guys. I ran across an old beater pickup at a price I couldn"t resist for an old wood hauler/hunting truck. It"s a 1993 Ford F150 regular cab 4WD. Owned by a agribusiness and has been beat pretty hard, but I don"t have much to lose. Anyway the old muffler is about shot. Every once in awhile I"ll hear an old truck that has that distinct cackling sound upon start up and acceleration. How do I get that sound? I"ve heard that you want to use a small diameter tailpipe and put the muffler as far forward as possible? Also what type of cheap muffler should I go with, just an old style glass pack?
