As you attempt this "log chained to the tires" manauver, do so in REVERSE! The torque around the axle will be pushing the front end DOWN (not UP). The best idea suggested here was bolting a car rim to the wheel and turning the rear axle into a cable winch and letting the tractor pull itself out! GH
