Starting fluid should be a last resort. Install a block heater, or put a magnetic-base heater on the oil pan. If you have to use the starting fluid, only spray it in the vicinity of the air breather, never directly into it. Too much fluid will damage the engine, as the initial combustion will be extremely violent. You could put a hole in a piston, or snap a crank.
