Years ago most everything was built for quality, because you could recoup the cost to make something, by being able to ask a price a certain percent above the cost to make it. Now share holders demand more returns, "lowest price" box stores demand lower prices, consumers are in the buy till it broke and toss it mentality, so manufacturers are always looking at cost reductions- thinner, less of, outsourced low quality components, higher rate assembly lines, less QA inspections. Result- cheap American built crap, or even cheaper foreign made crap, but with the way we as a nation spend every dime we make, borrow at any cost to buy what we cant afford, and buy the discount crap because that is all we can afford because of our spending habits, we reap what we sow. I heard at manufacturing plant in Mexico, workers make $2/hour / supervisors make $3/hour, maintenance make $5/hour. Expect more American made products to be relocated to the good old low cost countries.
