I have a MFWD 2950 with a synchro transmission. Whenever the tractor is running with the range shifter is in neutral it will always grind when I try to select a range. The only exceptions I have found is when already in one range and gear, I can stop and shift ranges without grinding (e.g. Low to Reverse is smooth). Shifting from Neutral to High range is the most problematic. It does not seem to matter if the gear selector is in neutral or gear when trying to select range.
Does anyone know if there's anything that can be adjusted to make it shift smoother or is this just something I just have to live with?
Some other tricks that I have found for reducing the grinding when coming out of Neutral range:
1) Idling the tractor way down first. 2) If shifting into High range, I first shift into Low range.
