Naw I've had 71 series Detroits. I'm talking about these 60 series 475hp we have now. If you are having good luck with the small stuff on a 60 series you might get in touch with Detroit. They might pay alot to see one like that. The company here has 9 of them and they're not nearly what that lying yuppie Pete salesman claimed they were. All 9 of these vibrate and break the a/c brackets, alternator brackets, and oil pans. If it has a joint in one of these here, at some time it has leaked and been repaired. These plastic oil pans and rocker covers even leak on these. These Detroits are too heavy too. We have 1 425hp 3406 Cat and it out does all these Detroits bad on maintenance, fuel and up keep. When these boys are out of Texas and get into hilly ground this Cat out pulls these Detroits bad. I like the Cat cause it does'nt need all the baby sitting that the Detroit has to have. When that feller was selling our resident yuppie these Detroits I thought I would love them. The oldest one is about 2 yrs old, and I fell out of love with them 23 months ago. Around here that 60 series was used to where Volvo and Freightliner would have a disposable truck they could sell to bad credit risk folks without a down payment, and small fleets that could'nt find or afford a better deal. We tried a demo Century class with a Detroit 450hp. From bumper to bumper I believe that was the cheapest, shottiest built piece of mess I ever saw. That Cenury Freightliner is all I ever saw that made a Volvo look good.

But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
