I can guarantee that there is lead in your old tractor paint. Red and green colors have a higher percentage than others. The autobody paint manufacturers still haven't gotten the lead out some of their formulations. The lead restrictions do not apply to them. Before the 1950's, IHC only had two colors they used on their truck lines. They were red and green. They were selected because they were the most durable due in part to the high lead. I think that Mack also used the same limited color options. If you are concerned about the lead contamination,
you could remove most of it with paint remover and high pressure water. Do it where you can contain the mess such as a large tarp or concrete floor. Let the water evaporate and pick up the waste. What you do with it then has lots of legal ramifications. The easyest solution would be to find a contractor who handles hazardous waste and make a deal with him. Some municipalities have programs that will accept hazardous waste. After the striping process, I would sandblast all the solid parts. Be careful with the sheet metal. It will warp from the peening effect of the high velocity sand. Do some test areas on a junk auto door or hood. I speak from 30 years in the sandblasting business.
