as far as i can tell the stock market is little more then a goverment backed ponzi scheme. Unfortunetely it is one of the best ways to make money since the goverment goes to extreme lengths to support it, and does the oppisite for people who save money and invest it in c.d's. real estate also seems to have the implicit backing of the u.s goverment. They encourage values to raise and when it comes time for a correction they give out subsidies to banks and homeowners to keep the party going.
