Fruits and Veggies - WHERE HAS THE TASTE GONE???

Having dessert the other evening after a nice meal and I thought to myself, we had a great salad with beautiful fresh tomatoes (store-bought) but the tomatoes had no taste. Was pretty much like eating paper. Then the strawberries for dessert looked great but again, no taste. I can hardly wait for the garden to start producing so I remember what this stuff is supposed to taste like. Meanwhile, can anyone explain exactly why this beautiful stuff (which of course looks that way on purpose) has NO TASTE at all??? And, why do we continue to buy it? The frozen or canned stuff even seems to be better.
