2 friends have them. 1 friend has been twisting my arm for over a year to get my CCW. I have refused for the following reasons:
1. 8 hour course that has to be renewed every 5 years I think.
2. I dont like registering guns of any kind with the police.
3. I have a 9 year old son, I dont want him to get his hands on a hand gun. Until he is much older, at a range, with my supervision
4. Most gun crimes are committed with a hand gun. I would be super pizzed off if a hand gun that I own is ripped off from my home and used to commit a felony.
5. Lots of places where you cant carry a hand gun, Schools, banks, church. those are 3 places I go to almost daily.
So I aint getting a CCW unless I get a job in the inner city. (which I work in a nice area now.)
I am told that it is not too hard to obtain the permit, but.....going through the class, purchase permit for the handgun, etc. It isnt worth it to me.
As far as in my home, I have a loaded 12 gage pump shotgun in a locked cabinet that I can get to in seconds if the front door is being kicked in. All my rifles and shotguns are locked up and I dont have to register any long gun in the state of Michigan.
