I'll admit to knowing almost nothing about Jeeps, so everything here is a guess.
IH PUs of the 60's with manual trannys used 2 similar looking "master cylinders" on the firewall. In fact, left one was the 'master' for the hydraulic clutch, and the one closest to the hump in the firewall was the brake Master. Later, the brake master was split into 2 chambers to supply the fluid to the 2 separate brake circuits (maybe 1968). And the clutch master remained a single resevoir. IIRC, both of these masters were rectangular in shape, and cast steel.
Jeep and IH shared a lot of parts and design features, so maybe this is of some value to you.
