Several things come to mind. First...firing order. The #1 cylinder is at the front of the engine with 2, 3, and 4 following in that order. When timed correctly, #1 position on the distributor will be at the 2 o'clock position. The next wire going clockwise will go the #3, the next going to #4, the last going to #2...that is where I would start...many an hour has been spent working on engine with the plug wires in the wrong order. The wire going from the coil to the distributor should be hooked to the positive coil terminal. Points are set with the engine turned so the lobe that opens and closes the points has the points opend to the widest point possible. Set the points between .017 and .020 (book setting is .020, but the old timers will tell you if there is much wear, .017 works better. To adjust, loosen the screw holding the part without the spring and butting a shim guage in there and holding it firmly enough to keep the guage in place but not so hard that you are pushing the spring part. Tighten the screw and then double check your work. The .020 guage should slip in with little or no reseistance. Part of your problem could be plug wires not seating well. The wires I got from TISCO were the pits. Shove them in there good. You need to recharge the battery. If an engine is properly tuned, you can start them with little or no juice. One last tip...I usually change only 1 or 2 components at a time (especially points and condensors)...Good luck...BB
