I purchased an old Farmall M that was apart. I am trying to figure out the electrical system. There was no battery or coil. Lights are 12 volt. The starter and generator have both been recently reworked. The generator has a number, but evidently some digits have been transposed, as the number is not in the Delco book. I was told by the local starter/alternator rebuild shop that the regulator determines if the generator is set up for 6V or 12V. He said it is not as simple as putting the generator on a stand and connecting a voltage meter. The regulator does not have a number that I can find. Can anyone tell me how to test the generator to see what voltage it is putting out?
