Belly pump Removal on SM

I may get a chance to drop the belly pump on my SM this weekend. I have been reading the board for several months and have read several post on such but I still a little unclear on a couple of points. First i know to disconnect the hoses and any connections from the sides. Four bolts from the bottom actual hold it and I should use caution when loosening and lowering due to the weight. How do you disconnect the shaft?? I think I read where the tractor can be used while the pump is out. The hole needs to be covered. Does something need to be done to hold the shaft in place or out of the way of anything. If there is anything else i have forgotten please let me know. Thanks for the help!
