first thing would be: with the engine running and warm in mid throttle, back out the "main jet needle valve screw" on the bottom of the carb until the engine stumbles, then slowly move it in until it smooths. Then idle down for a while and then check to see if it does your trouble. If not, You had the main jet set too low. Next, put the engine in low idle at about 450-500 rpm by rotating counterclockwise the "governor throttle baffle screw" - - then adjust the "low idle jet needle valve" in both directions until the engine stumbles and then smooths, looking for smoothest. Try your problem again. If no help then - - double check "triple check actually" the point gap. Should be a "tiny drag on your feeler guage" at .020, when the cam lobe as at the absolute peak. Also pull the plugs and double check the gap on them. Then, put a timing light on the number one cylinder plug wire (1st plug in front), and at 450-500 rpm, check that the firing occurs at top-dead-center. -- when the marker notch on the crankshaft pully (if 2 marks, then use the first one moving counterclockwise)exactly lines up with the notch. If not, loosen the distributor collar bolts and gently turn either way to make the mark line up. If o.k., then speed the engine up to about mid throttle, and note that the timing notch is "advanced" to approx 35-40 degrees "before top-dead-center." If there is little advance, you may need to rebuild the distributor, because the advance is not working properly. If all this is o.k., substitute another coil temporarily, to see if it cures the problem. If none of this works, you may have the wrong plug or you may have oil fouling because the oil builds up at idle over the intake valve guides and the stronger vacuum at throttle up sucks it past the guides and burns it, fouling the plug for an instant. Good luck.
