I'm looking at options to the MTD route (Geez they even make Cub Cadets now!) for mowing a couple/three acres around my home and down the long driveway. I have 45 acres here in NE Georgia and a real tractor, Ford 600, (hey, I heard that!) to do a lot of what I need to do in the fields. I'm not anxious to tie that tractor down with a belly mower. But it seems to me that within sighting distance of the money it would take to buy a disposable 46" riding mower at Lowes, I could purchase a Cub Lowboy with a 5' belly mower and have something pretty neat. What do you guys think? Is that a reasonable thought or a dumb one? I'd like to hear your thoughts. Now, where do I find one? I'd really like to find a good, fairly late offset Cub Lowboy. Today I found one of those 70's 154 Cub Lowboys (with the steel frame) here locally with the original IH belly mower, 3-pt etc. Looks like a pregnant Cadet! I recognized the good old 4-cyl flathead though! Kinda cool, but are these any good? It needed some minor work (muffler, cable), but all there. They were asking $2700, which seemed high. Thanks in advance.
