Cub Charging Problem

My 1950 Cub has some charging sys. problems. It has the original 6v starter and generator, but it has a 12v battery and lights. The problem is, the battery is not being charged when the tractor is running. The battery has to be recharged every once in a while, but other than that it runs fine. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong?
