Oil filter

When I drained the oil on my H, clumps of grease (I think) came out with it, also, their was grease caked on the underside of the plug. Should I try to flush it out?
Also, can I get an oil filter at an auto parts store? The filter was badly shredded and decomposing so I know I won't recognize a new one. Does anyone have a part #?
