X1 Means Gas, But .......

I'm curious as to what the difference would be between, say two H's, one with "X1" at the end of a serial# and one without. I know "X1" is strickly gas and the other you start on gas and switch to another fuel. But it seems to me something else needs to be different in the setup. Is the timing different? Different compression? Stroke? Carburation? If this has already been addressed I apoligize, but I couldn't find it. Thanks,
