Farmall 560 PTO help

My father bought a 560diesel to put a mounted picker on. It has a wide front that we will change to narrow. The 2point lift is already removed. It runs good and the torque works. He paid $1250 with both the wide and narrow fronts. The problem is the pto doesn't stop when we move the pto shift lever. The guy he bought it from has a parts 560. He said we can swap the pto asseblies for free. The engine is out of the parts tractor so I had dad hold the splined shaft by the engine while I turned the pto stub and engaged and disengaged it. It seemed to work normally. How much work is it to change these assemblies? It's getting close to picking time and I have to change the front and mount the picker yet too, LOL. The guy has a complete 2pt fast hitch off the parts tractor he wants to sell also for $300. Should we buy it too, just to have for the future? Thanks for any help you can give. It's greatly appreciated.
