HELP with FARMALL H TIMING MARKS

Iwas wondering if anyone could give me a little help on explaining the timing mark set up on a farmall H . I've read my IT manual where it said match the single mark tooth on the crank between the two marked teeth on the cam then mesh single marked tooth on cam between the two marked teeth on the magneto gear when i do this the marks are not between the teeth . Like a dummy when i took the motor apart i did't pay attention to the gear marks. Maybe a better explaination would help.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
