The 484 is a 3 cylc 179 inch diesel. This is half of a 358 German diesel used in o88 and 3288 tractors and 1420 and 1620 combines. These motors need to be run hard and worked to eliminate slobbering. Also poor oil, poor previous maintenence, or poor or stale fuel would not help.Worn valve sleeves will also cause this condition. Before spending dollars on repairs, do a basic maintenence and work the unit to its maximum for 3 or 4 hours. A dyno would also serve. It is the nature of these German diesels to dribble and slobber when under light load. (155,179,206, 239, 246, 268, 310,358, and 402 inch motors.) You would know if it was only running on 2 cylinders.
