You don't need to have an engine out of a tractor to plasti-gauge the mains and rods unless you afraid of a little dripping oil. Just pull the pan and start at it. Also if you can get a micrometer and check the crank for roundness on the rods it would be an advantage. What tractor is it? Some tractors have .002 undersized bearings available. Also be careful not to loosen up all your mains at once. This can take out you crankshaft main seals.
