Farmall M trans seal replacement HELP!

I am trying to replace the transmission input shaft seal on an M. I can't seem to get the drive shaft coupling off of the transmission shaft. It is hitting the clutch input drive shaft. It is so close but is hitting the other shaft, and wont clear the transmission shaft so I can get the seal housing off. Do I have to split the tractor to clear the drive shaft coupling from the transmission input shaft? Or do I have to remove the clutch shaft first? I thought you could also change the clutch without splitting the M. Maybe I am wrong. Please help!
