Sounds like you've got your hands full with this beastie, lets see if I can help a little. 1. I wouldn't keep running it with the "red rust" in the fuel. Clean that booger out. If you've got somebody who'll clean and seal it so much the better. 3. In our Super M I've been running detergent 30w for awhile because it's way cheaper and easier to get for me. (WAL-MART) The first few changes were at short intervals and the oil was pretty grungy. After a couple changes we dropped the pan and cleaned the pickup too, this seemed to make a big difference as oil pressure jumped way up. I think 10-30w would be okay if you weren't working the tractor too hard. I might run a synthetic or synthetic blend, and maybe a viscosity extender. In the winter, if its as cold as you say I would definately use a synthetic 20w if I could get it or 10-30w if I couldn't. I didn't used to like synthetics until I tried them in my Dakota and watched gas mileage go up 3mpg and the heat guage stay lower on the highway. I use Quaker State 4X4 blend because its relatively inexpensive for something I drain out every 3,000 miles.
