Gear/clutch plate problem

Cranked a '66 140 after about a year sitting from a slow cleanup and paint project. Now, when I press the clutch, the shaft won't stop turning and I can't get it into gear. Could it be that the clutch plate is stuck or what. I don't want to strip the teeth on the gear and it shifted when I drove it last year.
