Starting Trouble

(I'm talking about the tractor, not me!).

I have a '47 H that starts very hard. The biggest problem, though, is it seems to drain the battery part of the time. I will run it for awhile and if I shut it off half the time the battery is drained. Any suggestions? The battery is new, by the way.
