460 problems...driving me nuts

Have a 460 that was bought this summer. Had the carb rebuilt, and hae it back on. Put it on the feed mill yesterday to fine tune it under load. Got it to sounding pretty good, until the governor opens all the way up, then it backfires thru the carb, loses power, and dies. What do I have messed up? Or are my problems somewhere else?
