It Happened Again

A few days back we had a lively discussion under"Skunked" about wild animals invading the barn and people dumping pets in the country. Well, Sunday night I stopped at the farm as I had a cow calving. I was in the barn for over an hour. Monday morning I had another calf and when I went in the barn I heard mew mew mew..5 kittens about two months old, all came running to me and were used to being handled. I know they didn't originate in the barn, if they were feral you would never have got close enough to pick one up. I don't live at the farm and I am sure in my mind that someone drove in and dumped them right into the barn. Since our discussion I have shot and killed two racoons in the barn. It is not easy keeping unwanted animals out of a barn, especially some one who would dump kittens. They seem healthy and I will try to find a home for them, I already have 12 cats in the barn. This happens all the time, last time some one dumped pets the kittens had distemper and out of 5 three were dead on the highway in front of the farm, the other two lived after I spent $17 for eye drops and penicillin. I suspect that whoever did this knows I keep cats, knows I don't live there and figures they did a good deed..they are the same people who throw their coffe cups , cigarette packs, MacDonalds wrappers, cans , bottles and refuse from their cars along our rural roads..wish I had driven in while they were dumping the kittens..and you know if they had come in while I was there and asked if I would take the kittens I probably would have said yes..just don't like people who operate like that..Mike in Exeter Ontario
