Our 1950 H is making a noise (tough to describe, kind of like a shuddering from the axle area) on the left side, presumably from either the bearings on the brake shaft, or the bearings on the axle itself. It's tough to pinpoint, but I'm leaning towards the brake bearings. Is there an easy way to determine this? The noise occurs most easily when the tractor is rolling, as opposed to driving under power. I thought it would be easy to remove the brake bearing carrier and check them, but something isn't right. I removed the drum and carrier bolts, and used the bolts to pull the carrier out a ways. But then I was getting some large resistance and figured it was more complicated then this. The manual I have doesn't go into any detail on this. I thought this was the procedure, but now I see a section that seems to say I basically need to take everything apart (rear axle, drive gear). That can't be right either. Is this going to be more difficult then I thought? Thanks
