Charging Battery on M

The 6 volt battery on my tractor was dead, so I hooked it up to
the charger. I hooked the positive post of the battery to the
postive cable on the charger. I think this is backwards on
account of the positive ground-it was only this way for a couple
seconds. Can anyone tell me if I would have done any damage
to the electrical system? The battery doesn't seem to take a
charge now, even though it is only a year and a half old. Thanks
for you help.
