Been tearing my hair out with this. Engine hi idle speed will only make about 1650 rpm. Made all adjustments according to I&T manual, replaced governor spring. Still no change. It acts like it needs to be able to stretch the spring further to get more RPM, but the arm inside is maxxed out on travel. It is actually hitting the front of the governor cover, the high idle adj screw is backed out, and not touching the stop.
Removed governor and disassembled and inspected things, expecting everything to be totally shot. To my suprise, it is in great condition, bearings good, weight pin holes tight, thrust washer, bearing and sleeve all good.and tight.
It operates good and governs well, just too slow. Throttle is synched with the linkage and not binding. I can grasp the throttle linkage and speed up the engine, so I KNOW it will run faster.
