Sorry, this is going to be long; I want to give the background of what the tractor is doing and observations. I recently purchased a IH 1456. It was sitting for some time before I got it. After buying it I was driving it to family's house nearby; it ran fine for alittle then the engine seemed to slow to an idle no matter where the throttle was. I shut the engine off, I checked a few things quickly. When I restarted it started immediatley. It did that once more after a longer period of time while driving to a place I could work on it.
I wanted to drive it about 18 miles home so I later changed all the filters except the fuel filters. The air filter looked bad so I thought it may be the problem. It ran great most of the way home; even going up a mountain. When I was almost home it started consistantly cutting to an idle, then would struggle to stay running and shut off. It eventually would only stay running for about 15 seconds.
When I got it home we drained the tank and changed the filters. We got the air out of the lines and it running again. But now it will only stay running for about a minute or two then shut off. It seems like it is starving for fuel, but I dont understand why it would run great most of the way home and now have the same problem even with new filters.
I dont know for sure but when driving the tractor would start doing it when going down a hill; like when the tractor was pushing the engine it would cause or make problem worse? Also every time it shuts off it will start immediatly after I push the switch without hesitation. It has the Roosa Master injection pump.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Some of my fondest memories of these visits are those of learning to drive a tractor at the helm of Uncle Cecil’s 1948 Farmall Super A. Uncle Cecil was the second owner of this wonderful little tractor, but it was almost as though he had adopted an infant. The original owner was a man from Minnesota who bought her from a local dea
