Yes, they are a very unique design. In my opinion the MD is one of IH's greatest triumphs. The MD was the first real successful row crop diesel tractor. When everyone else was "experimenting" IH was building Diesel tractors that still run today. I have three of them (2 restored). Let me know if you need some help. I recommend Sealed Power engine kits. Plan on spending about $400/ hole. And yes, have the head fluxed for cracks. If the tractor wasn't left to cool down after hard work, the heads cracked.
