My friend has his grandpaw's C. It will run if hand cranked. We took the starter off, removed the switch, and cleaned the contack on the outside. Nothing happens when putting the juice to it. Current is flowing as we get a couple sparks with the cables. IH wants 160 dollars to exchange, rebuilder need 50 dollars for a basic service. Is there anything else we can do before taking it in? We haven't taken it apart yet. Also, tractor came w/ old 12 v battery. Looks like an original generator, and only has one coil in the regulator. Makes me wonder if it is really set up for 6 volts instead of 12. The generator does have an adjustment for belt tension unlike my M. My guess is that they are using a junk battery to fire the coil util the generator kicks in. If so, is having a good 12v battery only being feed 7 volts by the generator a good idea? Also, we cannot tell if it was intended to be pos or neg ground. I still have a six volt battery. Would it be safest to wire everything 6 volt positive , polarize the generator, and try it? Jim
