By using the Bob Melville's 12-Volt Conversion
Instructions (posted under Articles) I successfully completed the project using
a Delco 10SI (1978 Buick) Alternator.
I fabricated the bracket by flip-flopping
the OEM Generator Bracket which set it forward
about 1"; opened the bolt holes to 3/8". To
set the Alternator in-line with the drive pulley
you have to place the alternator in front of
the OEM bracket. I used a 9" X 3/8" bolt; threaded all the way
down to last 2" from end. By using the pulley
that came with the alternator, the OEM generator
belt nearly fit, however, it was a tad short.
A NAPA 9345; 31/64" X 34-7/8" did the trick.
I fabricated an ajusting arm using a 3/4" strap
iron with a 2" forward offset and a slotted
adjusting arm end from a junk car. The final
belt tightening was only 1/4" or so...as everything fits up just right and you have
very little room to play with...nothing touches
the hood....all fits with adequate clearance.
See photos...
Thanks, Bob, for your detailed instructions!

Today's Featured Article - The Fordson F Ignition System - by Anthony West. A fellow restorer contacted me earlier this year asking for some help and advice on a model F that he was restoring. He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce ... [Read Article]
