6.5v at the coil is higher than I expected. Thinking about this again reminded me that your tractor may not have used a resistor when it was a 6v system. If it didn't, then 6.5v is fine. If it did use a resistor, the 6.5v is a little high and may be what caused your problems. The 335 ohms on the coil is far higher than it should be -- but the 6.5v that you saw at the resistor seems to indicate that the 335ohm measurement is in error. Want to measure the coil resistance again? If you see 335 ohms again I'd guess that's your problem -- just don't see how the 6.5v fits in. New points sounds like a good idea (make sure to adjust them per the service manual) -- I might be tempted to wait on the coil until you try the points.
