We're working on a Massey Harris 101 Junior and it appears as if the clutch shaft is seized in the flywheel's pilot bushing or if it has a bearing, then the bearing itself is seized or frozen to the shaft. I'm not sure if the MH lines used bearings or bushing, but whatever they used the tractor is pretty much impossible to get into gear when running (lots of grinding) and it is NOT the clutch itself that is sticking.
Is there any way of lubricating that or freeing it up? I was thinking that if I removed the starter and jammed the flywheel ring gear teeth to keep it from turning, then the driveshaft that comes out the rear of the clutch housing could perhaps be turned with a pipe wrench and the shaft would free itself up.
Just a thought, I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. Any comments or suggestions?
