A few years ago I went on a antique tractor purchasing spree. I purchased 10 with the intent of refurbing them and reselling as a small income source during retirement. About a year ago I finally got around to starting and recently completed a 1948 model B John Deere and have sold that. Now I'm on to what was sold to me as a 1953 Farmall Super M.
Well, that may not have been the entire story. It turns out that the Model/Serial tag reads SM D with serial # F-36665 J. So, it looks like at least the clutch housing is from a diesel? (that casting is marked with what I believe is a code "Y".)
I have found what appears to be 4 different casting codes, F, I, L, and Y on various casings. "F" on rear axel housings, air filter/front tank mount, right wheel, and the bolster. The "I" appears on the water pump housing. The "L" is on the transmission cover and the pulley gear housing. And the "Y" is on the transmissions casting, clutch housing, and the left wheel.
The Engine numbers are W KM19516 W1.
Question; what in the world do I have??? I am not new to mechanics but very new to this refurbishing game. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I’ve noticed a few questions in the comment section that could pertain to hydraulic cylinders so I thought we could take a short look at this real workhorse of the circuit. Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in
