John Deere B Uneven Firing

Removing the #1 wire affects the engine more noticeably than removing the #2 wire but it runs in either case. It is a 1951 JD B on a 6 volt coil. Is this normal because the firing order is so irregular on a JD 2 cyl motor? Also it is very hard starting due to the 6 volt system I guess. I thought about putting another 6 volt battery on the coil while starting but I was afraid it would backfeed current to the original battery during cranking and burn out a wire or something. Any ideas out there?
