My JD 40 has hydraulic leaks and problems with the hydraulic unit. It has dual levers and only one will lift only one of the lift arms. I suspect the pump is working since one lever will respond. I am contemplating trying to remove the unit and overhaul it. Are parts available from JD and is this a project that can be tackled. It looks like you only need to remove the unit as a whole and tear into it. Is it likely that new rubber parts inside would fix my problemsd? I don't see how I can be getting pressure to one cylinder and not the other inside the hydraulic unit. Also, if I remove the hydarulic unit should I remove the lift arms from the unit before removal. Will the hydraulic fluid stay in the unit or is there a gasket between it and the transmission housing?
