Hey, Shep. Wondered how the house was going. Does SWMBO still think the house is too small? About the attic thing. Do the plans show the walk out from attic to garage? Did you make it clear that you wanted acces from the garage? If so, it's his responsibility to make it match the plans. Both financially and timewise. Even if he has to rebuild the trusses, or have them rebuilt. Don't forget, if you're cutting into trusses there are structural issues that have to be addressed, the truss acts as a unit, not as separate members like a stick framed roof. Simply adding a valley rafter(s) probably won't let the roof system develop the load, wind, and anti-racking strength required. And there could also be structural issues loading the bottom chord of the truss if it has not been designed for that. I agree with Ray, hold some or all of his money till he gets it right. But, if you're working on a draw from the bank (construction loan) get the bank loan officer and/or the person that does progress inspections out there, and on your side. Show them the difference between the plans and the actual construction. Then let them withhold payments. Maybe the cost of all the trusses that have to be altered, plus any roof sheeting that's in the way, and the labor to remove the stuff that ain't supposed to be there, and the labor to make it the way it's supposed to be. I do construction claims consulting, so I have a little experience here! Don't let the builder bully you on this, or anything else
