I need to erect a shelter in the new cow yard. The yard is on the south side of a 300" double decker chicken barn. How big of a 3 sided wind/rain shelter should I build? There will be 4-6 young dairy steers, and possibly 2-3 bred cows using it. One person said 8x8 or 8x16 one said 8x8 is plenty, yet another said 12x24, that seems awful large. Also, when it is erected should I add a few inches of gravel to the gound in it? I need something up, but dont have alot of time, and do not want to high of bill to build it, I am trying to get this all completed with sweetcorn cash that I have left so I dont pull out of savings. I have a few 2.5 month old diary steers that will be going in there within a week.
