Who ever told you that the British pound and the US dollar were supposed to be equal? They've never been equal. I'm a good bit older than most on this forum but I can remember when it took about 5 US dollars to buy one pound. The pound sunk to $2.50 for several years way back and then went into a steady decline for a long time. Don't you know that when the dollar increases in value it makes our exports more expensive? We are still one of the largest exporting nations in the world. Europe imports about 17% of everything it needs from the US every year. If it hadn't been for demoquacks insisting that every Tom Dick and Harry should be able to buy a house courtesy of Freddie Mac and Fannie May whether they could afford it or not we wouldn't be in the fix we're in.
