substituting hydraulic fluid

Just replaced the front seal of the hydraulic pump in my 300 RC. Was having trouble with hyd oil leaking down into the crankcase after using the hyd system for several hours. What would be the downside of putting 20W or 30W S3 non-foaming diesel oil in the hyd system instead of Hy-Tran? Seems like heavier oil would be less prone to leaking through the seal. Would the heavier oil create serious system problems in cold weather? TIA!
