heads rebuilt

I had 2 Heads to M's one i bought and one came of my M, well the machine shop said one all the intake and exushast vavles are bad but i could see this, the tractor was not that well taken care of and had tons of sluge in it. But they said that it wouldent hold water, had cracks, and some other stuff, they want me to pay 4 somethnig to rebuild it and when i took it off it worked, are they screwing me? And i bought the one head from anotohr guy and said it was in good condition and they said this gonna be 3hunderd and some to fix it, i think ill juts sell both of the heads As they are and get a new 400 head seience i want to pull with it.
