Farmall M backfire

I just posted a message but dont think it made it. So, here goes again. I looked at another M today and it seemed to be in pretty good shape. It is straight. It started right up but when I started moving, it started cutting out. When I went down the road in 4th gear, it cut out, backfired, and started running again. It is not burning oil and is firing on all cylinders. I asked the owner if the plugs were changed and he said yes. I am thinking it could possibly be carb, timing, spark plug gap, wires or something like that. It still seems pretty solid. Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on?
