Magneto impulse help, please!

I'm disassembling my IHC model H4 magneto to do some service and I've found myself in a bit of a bind/stopping point. Here's hoping that someone can help me out quickly so I'm not stranded for the whole weekend: I've removed the nut and lock washer that holds the drive lugs onto the magneto base... but HOW do you remove the impulse spring? What was behind the lugs was another steel circle, and I assume the impulse spring is sitting behind it. How is this part removed? I'm wondering if it also screws off the threaded shaft- but I want to know for sure before I start trying to force things. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated! Regards,
