The A I got from the family had been converted to 12 volts. Inside the distributor there are two condensers...one that has a threaded post, and the other that has a wire with a spade connection. Both are connecected electrically at the post and spade connection to the negative side of the coil. I assume the original condenser was the one with the threaded post. The other one is very shiny...looks relatively new. The big wire-wound coil that (6-volt magneto) was originally in the distributor had been removed prior to my involvement with this tractor. Should the original (threaded post) condenser still be inculded in the wiring? I've tried timing the tractor since I've found the timing mark and I can't bring it in to time with the range of the distributor travel. I'm wondering if the two condenser hookup is causing problems. When I've had the tractor running well, it sounds good...hits on all cylinders, but can't handle load like brush-hogging. Timing has never been dead on...at least 30-40 degrees off from DC1-4 that is specified. I know that timing affects power...so I suspect a problem. I'm restoring this tractor without much help from previous owners and operators...so your help is appreciated very much. Points are very worn, so I will get them replaced. Tips and alternatives will be welcomed. John Martin
