The pressure is on

Well it's more like the lack of pressure. I have a 41 A that was given to me a few weeks ago. It's been sitting for 12 years out side... Anyway, the head was a mess, the rocker arms were covered in rust (most of which was from the breather cover that rotted away). So I took the head off, soaked it and the rocker arms in kero. unstuck the one stuck valve, cleaned it all up and put it back together. I also should add that the carb got rebuilt and new plugs & wires where installed. I cleaned up the Mag (which is a Fairbanks, never seen one before, but the good folks on the AC board helped me figure it out), set the points etc etc. So I was really hoping to grab the crank on this old girl and have it fire up, but after alot of cranking, I didn't get anywhere. So I checked for spark, which I had, but I looked at the plugs and they weren't wet (which I expected after all that cranking with the choke set). So just for the fun of it I put my thumb over the spark plug hole and cranked it over until I felt pressure. Well it's wasn't that much, or I should say I expected more. I went over to my freshly rebuilt A and did the same thing and the blew my thumb right out of the hole! So here I am, I'm guessing I'm the victum of low pressure. I'm thinking it's the valves (the pistons & cylinder walls looked really good), does that sound like a fair guess? Also, I'll be damned if I could find a TDC mark on the fly wheel. I used a screwdriver to find TDC, but no mark was in sight, kind of weird... The good news is that I got so frustrated with the '41 that I finished putting together the '47 (the one with the fresh rebuild), and maybe I'll be able to take that for a spin tonight!
